My 13 year old son Elias has decided to trade in his soccer cleats for tennis shoes. He began playing at the age of 10 during summer camp. At age 11 he started taking semi-private lessons at the Manhattan Racquet club located in mid-town. He also plays on his middle school team for Wagner during the spring time. But what really stepped up his game was joining the USTA and participating in tournaments all over Long Island. He now plays Level 2 tournaments with boys 14 to 16 years of age. He is hoping to be ranked by the end of this year. The USTA offers competitive tennis for those interested in being the next Andre Aggassi. You can start out playing level 3 which is an unranked competition but gives you the opportunity to learn the competitive side and help you gain confidence.
