Last night 20 people dined together with Ryan Hill, proprietor of Hill Family Estate wines at Estancia 460. They had a 3 course meal and sampled 7 of his wines. Ryan Hill is one of the youngest wine makers I know. Barely 24 from Yountville California and full of passion and enthusiasm over his wines. His family started out as apple growers and ultimately got into growing grapes.Ryan says his family is the first to use the Malbec varietal in this country. It is used for the Rose of Malbec blended with Syrah and Tempranillo.It has lovely hints of watermelon. Attending this dinner was Jerry Kretchmer who is the owner of Gotham Bar and Grill as well as Jean-Pierre Galateau who runs WineCare Storage.
